Why is Marvel Secret Invasion using AI for its title sequence...

@lilyunsub: Save money. Trying to look cool. Trying to "develop the tech".

I remember seeing the sequence early, not knowing it was AI-generated, and saying that it looked fucked-up and thinking that perhaps it was a rough cut or a misdirect to keep the real sequence a surprise.

@thedisasterautist I guess the subversive idea of not really knowing is supposed to fit with the whole skrull invasion thing but just seems badly timed considering everything going on in the world atm.

@lilyunsub: They weren't thinking at all, really, beyond spectacle and saving money. It has nothing to do with the world at the moment. Many people in the movie and tv business don't really think that deeply, especially I the boardrooms and country clubs.

@thedisasterautist I dunno, there are some that work within that system who really do take the craft of storytelling and film making seriously and do it incredibly well, like Moon Knight, and then there are some decisions that are very not so good.

@lilyunsub: That's why I said "many" and not "all" and also why I said "in the boardrooms and country clubs". May at the studio exec and user-management level are not serous about storytelling or filmmaking. Those are the people that fund most all of it and distribute nearly all of it. They think about expenditure, budget, and profit and very little else. I've been in and around the business since I was nineteen, and while tech has changed, the moneyfolk have not much at all.

@lilyunsub: Now, if a good story happens to be told, then it's even better. Even better is if it leads to a big IP. And sometimes they take gambles, and sometimes those are big debacles but sometimes are the tiny acorns from which mighty oaks grow. (Quentin Tarantino is an example of the later, regardless of what anyone thinks of him personally.) And the acorns are usually comparatively cheap to produce.
