Still can't believe this intense level of violence happened here. NZ still has a long way to go in many areas but this sort of thing is beyond me. The equivalent in the US would be someone killing 3400 people as far as population goes. Challenging bullshit views is the only way forward from this. There is no one who lives here that isn't either directly affected or close with someone who is.

@lilyunsub 1/I can't believe that level of violence happened in NZ either. A friend recently visited NZ, she shared her experiences and photos. I remain in awe NZ's beauty and her stories of how wonderful people are to each other. If I've learned anything the past few days, it's how strong NZ is. How quickly PM Ardern stood up to white supremacy, comforted victims and and announced gun law changes is a model for all leaders. The viral video of the haka dance is the sign of unity we all need.
@lilyunsub 2/I mourn with you, although I can't imagine what you are feeling personally. And even though our self-absorbed leaders here show only cursory care for what has happened in NZ, believe me Americans are mourning for NZ. Sending a virtual [ hug ] from halfway around the world.
