I realized several years ago how bad social media is for mental health, genuine relationships, and democracy, so it is encouraging to see the next generation coming to the same conclusions: nytimes.com/2019/10/01/opinion My use of social media is now relegated to Mastodon instances and disapora* and I have a lot of personal rules about how I use them that keep me from the addictive tendencies.

Maybe by analogy to being present during meals and not mindlessly eating, it might be best to be only deliberate and mindful when consuming social media.

@electrikmonk I like this. Mindfulness and intentionality need to be increased in all domains. And all technologies have ideologies embedded in them, the primary one being: since this exists, it must be used. This is the biggest insite I got from Neil Postman, Jacques Ellul, and Marshall McLuhan (even if I have not fully comprehended their work).
