They "paused their fundraising" and fired most staff, but still had a skeleton staff, from what I understand. They were probably hoping to ride the wave of attention until everyone forgot about the embezzeled funds, then pop back in with new videos & fundraising requests like they never left.

They are in the process of liquidation. Giles was probably trying to see as CEO if she could do anything all she probably found was a drained husk with note from James O'keefe labeled "IOU"
so likely she just decided to toss a grenade back at it on her way out
