Another ability I didn't expect or particularly want to acquire: doing rough conversions between Fahrenheit and Celsius in the subfreezing range. Where I live, less than 0⁰C is almost as rare as 0⁰K. Was, anyway.

@kismatt Yeah, that's my (slightly exaggerated) point. We'd get a freeze or two every winter, and by "freeze" I mean 0⁰C. Significantly *below* 0⁰C? Never--just like 0⁰K.
