Tonight, making ham casserole (ham, onion, canned mushroom soup, cheese, rice, topped with stale bread croutons) and blackberry "cobbler" (not really a cobbler, more a crumble, but simple and quick to make) as long as I've got a 375F oven. I like to use the oven for more than one thing while it's heated up. #CosoFood
Grrr. I can't make cobbler, I don't have a cup of sugar. Spouse started "watching what she eats" and bought some "healthier" sugar for her tea a few months ago and so she is in charge of sugar, and we're out (maybe have 2 tbsp). Fortunately, all I'd done is rinse the blackberries and put them in a dish, but I don't have another oven meal planned for who knows how long, so, the oven efficiency is kaput. π
@Ellico2020bis what is the 'healthier' sugar? A lot of subs can be used in baking, specifically locanto and splenda
@Ellico2020bis Ahh. I get the Morena sugar myself, it's not pure white either, not as fine grain, but it's still sugar lol
@Ellico2020bis Yeah, the Morena sugar is at the reg store, (and Aldi!) and is just....less processed than C&H.
I like baked chops too! I have my own shake-and-bake concoction and they are yum
@kismatt This is "Florida Crystals," "Pure Cane Sugar." I, myself, use very little sugar-- I'm not a baker, the cobbler is basically the only baking I do from scratch, and I drink my coffee black-- I do add 1/4 tbsp or so to certain cereals/oatmeal, but I bet I consume less than 2 cups of pure sugar added into my food/drink per year.
@Ellico2020bis The consistency may vary at room temp, and there may be subtle flavor differences, but in a cobbler, I think you'd be fine with it. At the end of the day, you just need some sweet in that recipe! On a side note, I don't believe that it's the degree or type of processing that makes sugar not healthy for us. It's the sugar.
@kismatt
@kismatt She says she gets it at the regular supermarket, so, it's not some ultra-organic Trader Joe's stuff, but, I gather she did some "Google research" and settled on it since it's the 2nd jar she's purchased.
I thawed pork chops, maybe I can bake them instead of frying (if I have some stuffing) and get the cobbler in the oven.
