If anyone notices any Cenobites around, it may be because I just took apart my puzzle-box of a video-game controller to clean it.

First, there were the tiny screw in long tunnels that could be seen. Then there were the panels held on by spludge tabs that concealed more tiny screws. Them of course the inevitable screws hidden under a label.

Then more spludge tabs inside.

(cont'd)

I ended up removing ever single tab. The whole thing reassembled just fine without them - the screws work fine, with nothing loose.

The spludges clearly were there to serve one purpose: To make it hard to service or repair.

So sick of maintainable equipment being rendered into trash so that we'll buy another.

@AskTheDevil this is like adding RAM to my computer. I think there were at least 8 hidden screws under feet, inside the DVD drive, under labels.

Crazy.

And I'm about to do it all again to replace the SSD.

@kismatt Sometimes, it feels like just poor design, but often, it feels deliberate.
