Some asshole kids (probably, it usually is) knocked our power out playing with switches outside while I was finishing up work, so now I have to wait for the modem to come back on before I can finish. Fucking brats.

(I like kids in general, but the ones that live in this apartment complex are goddamn brats.)

@shadow_queene I had that happen to me (condo) a few years ago and my next door neighbor last year when he was out of town - he lost everything in the frig, we figure it'd been out for days when he got back.

Call the electric company and then the landlord. The elec co will put locks on those main switch boxes or enclose them and give the apt complex the keys.

@kismatt I've been calling for 6 years. Nothing happens.

@shadow_queene Do you pay your electric, or is it paid by the apt complex? I'd tell the electric company there's a fire hazard they need to fix. If it's the complex, tell your mgmt co there's a fire hazard.

If someone is on oxygen and their elec is turned off by the rugrats, someone is gonna DIE.

@kismatt We pay it, but no one listens. This happens every couple of weeks every summer (but we're up to twice in 30 minutes, tonight)

@shadow_queene I would be so tempted to put my own lock on it. They can't complain if they have to cut it off. Do they need to get into the box to read the meter?

@kismatt They're not even marked so we can tell whose is whose.

@shadow_queene I'd be calling the police. Vandalism. Also can get the complex in trouble because of occupancy permits, etc.

We had a group - I'm not going to call it a family, cuz 1 absent adult & 7 uncontrolled kids is not a unit - rent a condo for 6 months before getting evicted. Broken windows, stolen mail, damaged downspouts, mangled fences, flat tires, you name it. It took the owner almost a year to fix the damages inside the townhouse.

We had to call the police on them to get them out.

@kismatt The office sends out fliers a few times a year saying if they can find the kids responsible, that family will be evicted, but either they don't find them or other kids start up where they left off because it never ends. Honestly at this point, I doubt it's the same kids as it was when we moved in because they're probably adults by now. It's just kids in general that live here.

@kismatt But also I don't think the complex actually cares. They for sure don't care enough to do basic maintenance, so I don't see how this would be any different.

@shadow_queene that's crazy. The office won't do anything else unless the kids break into the office itself and then, it'll matter.

See if you can get your own lock for that breaker box. If someone complains, tell them to take it up with the office.
