#Knitting a pair of socks for the first time, and as a gift.
Realizing this would be much easier if I had access to the foot the socks belong to.
Pondering a burglar-for-hire to sneak in and take sleeping measurements in the dead of night.
@Beanc casually bring up shoe size in a conversation?
@redenigma nah I have shoe size. I need DETAILS.
@Beanc shoe size should give you heel to toe length. of course, that doesn't help with ankle or calf circumference...
@redenigma exactly.
@redenigma hey when you do foot length, do you knit a few fractions of an inch/cm shorter for the negative ease?
@redenigma @Beanc Also, please make sure there is at last 20% nylon in the yarn. I knit up a lovely pair of socks with Sockotta (Plymouth, 45% cotton/45% wool/15% nylon) and wore a hole in one at the ball of my right foot, which I TURN when I walk due to an ancient injury. First time wearing them.
I was gutted.
@redenigma @kismatt ooooh thanks for the tip.
I did have a pair I wanted to knit with a fractal yarn that has zero nylon.
@Beanc @redenigma I thought 15% would be okay too, and was disappointed that it was not :( It may also depend on the yarn. I don't think the cotton helped.
@kismatt @redenigma awww man that sucks!
I do ensure the nylon, tho! I’ll have to dbl check 20% - I was under the impression thAt 15+ would be ok
