@praet0rian Honestly should try to get the Pope to say something. Catholics are supposed to be against the death penalty.
@sheseala the Pope has been very outspoken against the death penalty. You do realise the Pope is neither the Governor of Missouri nor a Supreme Court Justice?
@killingfloorman @praet0rian Well, yeah, but what I mean is make a statement to the Justices specifically. Or actually swing the excommunication hammer on them.
(Yes I'm aware that religious figures shouldn't have sway over elected officials as people feared with Kennedy and why it won't/should never happen, but it'd be nice if the 'they are Catholic, that's why xyz' excuse wasn't there any more due to someone with the ability to yoink said status)
@sheseala @killingfloorman @praet0rian I feel like maybe he should just stay out of it, or else he should focus on behavior and values. Tell people to vote based on whether a person is showing actual moral values, or if they spread lies and hatred and viciousness. That would be fine by me.
I don't want religious figures holding sway over public figures, or even offering the conceit that they should.
@killingfloorman @AskTheDevil @praet0rian I was surprised to see one recently was actually excommunicated for schism.
I *think* I found why priests harp more on abortion more than execution and it has to do with it being called out in canon law, capital punishment isn't really, probably because one is personal and one is state.
But that doesn't mean they can't add something about participating (like administering drugs for example). That may make people talk about it at least.
