It occurs to me that the press have not really reflected on the fact that their particular style of political punditry, over the past 40+ years, has not really made politics better.

I don't mean in the sense of producing particular political outcomes: I mean that it has not produced a better-informed citizenry, or more honest politicians, or a politics that privileges substantive results over empty rhetoric.

If they did think about it, would they perhaps try something different?
