Sounds like a similar context.
Instead of expressing desperation of your personal condition like Mohamed Bouazizi, these people seemed to latch onto a greater issue to amplify their condition.
For me, this act is a distraction. It doesn't increase my disgust at the situation.
Maybe I'm too insensitive....
