At this stage I'm pretty sure that the Ukrainians are just pranking on Malcolm Nance.
This rifle is an M-14 (not a more modern M1A Scout), probably from the batch that Estonia donated last year.
Good rifle but...
The scope mount is in the wrong place (too far back). Mounted that far back means that it has to be mounted leaning to the left, to avoid the ejection port. The scope itself is a Chinese made ATN night vision X-Sight but its missing its battery pack. If used w/smart phone it will report location to China.
He has no ammo or magazines other than the one in the rifle...
And as always, his uniform is spotless clean and so are his hands.
@jurban Than he doesn't need a dedicated marksman's night vision rifle.
A pistol or sub machine gun would do fine.
But my guess is that he's only armed for his photo ops.
