Rob Lee reporting...

"A Russian Telegram channel claims that the commander of the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division evacuated from Izyum two days ago even though some of his forces are still in the area."

There is no 2nd Motor Rifle Division in the current Russian army.

But there is a 2nd Guards Motor Rifle Division, in the 1st Guards Tank Army. Both of which are supposedly "elite" units, and both of which are/were in the Izium area after being rebuilt from the debacle at Kyiv.

@jurban That's really good! I wish I'd known about it, it would have saved me about 2000 characters of CoSo space.

Here's the current update...

@Render
Ha!
I'm looking forward to the one that starts in February.

I don't think there's much extraordinary about the tactics. I suppose the strategy was more broad: Get them to pull resources from the NE Front by threatening the Southern Front.
They were weakened in the NE.
Ukraine merely concentrated and went in hot where they could get to Kupiansk fastest.

@jurban Understand that not all of the units from either side that are or were present are shown in that graphic.

There are at least three, possibly four, units that seem to be missing from the Ukr side for which there is video confirmation of being present in the advance. 3rd, 4th, and 10th Tank Brigades and 93rd Mech Brigade.

Special forces/ABN to probe then break the line, territorial defense to widen the gap/protect the flanks, heavy armor to penetrate deep into the rear.

@Render
Understood.
I saw a tweet where they said 5,000 troops were recently trained in the UK and were added to this offensive. Fresh forces.
