The coaches and players don’t know how much time is left and have to be reminded so they can plan closing minutes strategy? Are college football teams more alert? Give me a break.

@Beardalope Yes, they measure field goal distance from where it’s kicked, so punters should be treated the same. And when a QB scrambles in the backfield and finally hurls a caught pass, the distance is measured from the line of scrimmage, even though he might be twenty yards back at the time.

@Beardalope Since the yards-after-catch is a stat, the receiver would be able to get credit for the yards passed that he caught. And the QB could then get credit for that stat, since he threw the pass. But now both the receiver and the QB get credit for the total. So the receiver actually gets two stats from that one pass play. The QB has little to do with that second stat in most cases, yet he gets credit for it in the total.

#football It might be impractical to do, but why can’t a QB’s passing-yard stats reflect only the yards thrown for completions, instead of the total yards gained? I mean, the QB throws a ten-yard pass to a back who then runs for sixty yards before being tackled. In my view, the QB should be credited with ten yards only, since it was the running back who got the extra sixty yards.

@Razdawg22 True, but he’ll be beyond the actuarial age of mortality by next November. If he had a consensus capable vice president, it would not be as bad a problem. Trouble is, Harris has lower approval ratings than Biden. Has she done anything bad? No. And vice presidents never get much respect. But SHE’S A WOMAN, and America, unfortunately, is not ready yet to have a female president, especially one of color. I hope to be proved wrong.

Score one for accountability: the rejection of Meadows’ request to move his case to federal court in Atlanta. That would have resulted in a different jury pool, pulling in jurors from MAGA country and increasing the chance of, if not jury nullification, then a hung jury. Now we’ll see what will happen to Trump’s request for same.

@LnzyHou He should be convicted of that - eventually. Doubt he’d get 22 years for it, but others who took classified documents in the past have served prison time.

The long sentences being handed down to Trump’s insurrectionist planners is making it less likely he’ll get no prison time if convicted. As Trump has often complained about his own treatment by the justice system, it wouldn’t be fair if the CIC of the coup escaped the penalties of his generals.

With Trump’s trial(s) schedule, he won’t be able to campaign effectively, but he’ll still get his party’s nomination unless he dies.

I like Joe Biden, but his physical
deterioration the last few years has been painful to watch. He still might squeak out a win over Trump, but then what? Democrats have a conundrum, one they can’t resolve unless Biden steps aside prior to the convention and a new candidate takes his place the way we did it before primaries reigned supreme.

The heat wave continues. Even my old stomping grounds, Burlington, Vermont, will see temperature in the 90s!
