Here’s how the Electoral College can be eliminated: Trump wins the national popular vote but loses the EC. Suddenly, Republicans would call the EC undemocratic! They’ve depended on it for minority rule for decades, but now they’d see the danger in it. Democrats would then say, welcome to our world, and the Constitutional amendment would be on its way!
@redenigma Despite losing the popular vote by 7 million, 75 thousand votes more in four states would have given Trump the victory.
@redenigma Democrats took their eyes off the ball when they let Republicans gain the majority in so many state legislatures, allowing them to cement minority rule with gerrymandering. And with a friendly Supreme Court, they get to keep things that way. And they got their friendly Supreme Court through a president that was elected thanks to the Electoral College, not popular vote. Aargh!
@johnldeboer the entire GOP plan started in the late 60s. i told people then this was coming & they laughed at me...
@redenigma Gotta hand it to the Republicans for their long game, though developed out of necessity, as they saw demographics starting to favor Democrats. Alas, the Dems became too complacent.
@johnldeboer oh, i agree the Electoral College (and gerrymandering) needs to go away. the idea that some states have more say with fewer residents is rediculous
