Biden won’t do it now, of course, but if he gets re-elected in November, he should get another Attorney General. Garland seems like a nice fellow, but he’s been a disaster for justice. Delaying any prosecutions of those involved in Jan. 6 until the election calendar would preclude any trials for the conspirators before November was terrible enough. But appointing Hur as the special prosecutor in the Biden classified documents case was the last straw. Hopefully, Biden will be able to can him.
@johnldeboer Hur resigned before testifying.
You're right, scrupulously cautious Garland would be better placed on SCOTUS. Harris at DOJ. Warren at VP.
@walterbays Interesting suggestions, though I’d quibble with Warren as VP. She’s old too! How about Governor Whitmer instead?
@johnldeboer Whitmer would be great. Or Buttigieg. As for Harris, she's excellent at government administration, but pretty bad at political PR.
Ps, thanks for the correction on the timing of Hur's resignation.
@walterbays Hur’s job concluded with his report. The actual transcript of his interview with Biden is much more favorable to Biden than his oral summary. Shades of Barr’s oral summary following the Mueller Report! Alas, everyone will remember the summary and no one will read the transcript of the report.
@walterbays Ah, so he resigned from federal employ. That’s different than having his temporary job being ended with his final report. I got that wrong.
@walterbays If Trump gets elected president, I’m sure Hur will be back in the Justice Department again.
@johnldeboer
Should be Biden’s first official act in 2025.
