Shame on MLB! Shame on John Fisher! The A's shouldn't be moving to Oakland. Oakland is a fine baseball city. That team drew friendly crowds even as a small-market team earning respectability from the MoneyBall days. A's stopped drawing when Fisher decided to stop spending and operating an organization. For fans to get ripped by Manfred is wrong. I hope A's somehow stay in Oakland. They should, and Vegas should get an expansion team. #CoSoSports
@ByLeslieMonteiro The A’s attendance has been near the bottom of MLB for almost two decades. I don’t know what research has shown about the Vegas potential, but it’s hard to blame an owner for wanting more gate receipts. Maybe it’s his fault for not spending for better players, I don’t know. But it is what it is. And MLB expansion? Really? Too many teams already in a declining popularity sport, IMO. And too many games! Starting and ending in the cold is not what baseball was meant to be.
@johnldeboer Because the stadium is a dump and the franchise let players go. The A's blatantly let guys go a few years ago with the idea of tanking and moving to Vegas. For God's sake, they let a successful manager go to the Padres with no compensation despite being under contract. What good does it do if the same owner is there and the folks that go to Vegas is there to watch the opposing team. This is terrible, and it isn't right. I know a lot of good A's fans.
@ByLeslieMonteiro You know as well as I that refitting/replacing aging stadia usually involves a financial arrangement with the city. iLooks like Oakland didn’t want to throw good money after bad. I wonder how popular baseball will be in Vegas during the hot summer. Florida’s teams have the same attendance problem.
@ByLeslieMonteiro But they don’t play baseball in the winter, so, on sunny, hot days, the roof, I’m sure, will be open.
@ByLeslieMonteiro And air-condition the entire ballpark? Yikes.
@johnldeboer Yeah. Vegas gets hot in the summer as you know.
@johnldeboer The roof would close if it's very hot.
