@Mauve_matelot I always considered birb to refer to the small round ones but that is not a hill I will die on.

@jeffreyw Thanks. We have northern flickers here (north central Colorado). I guess I've never seen them in that light. They and the jays are very attracted to the suet blocks I put out.
For all I spend on birdseed, I should be raising chickens.
