I grew up desperately poor. West Texas poor. When I started making money I found a poor trap. I felt like I needed to spend money and have "high tastes" so nobody would know how poor I was. This is a trap. It is what self-hatred can look like.
@jasod Another poor trap: When you finally make money, and you are surrounded by people struggling, so you keep giving it away, because you can't let the people around you suffer.
You're also subsidizing the rich people and the system that made you and your neighbors poor.
