"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... only disarm those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one."

Essay on Crimes and Punishments.

@Render

"The claim that gun ownership stops crime is common in the U.S., and that belief drives laws that make it easy to own and keep firearms.
But about 30 careful studies show more guns are linked to more crimes: murders, rapes, and others. Far less research shows that guns help."

@Render

Wouldn't it be helpful if the NRA didn't sponsor that bill to stop gun research by the CDC so we had a more concrete answer?

Oh wait, the NRA doesn't want that.

@Jeast Strangely, that CDC research seems to go, and keeps getting published, and seems to disprove Scientific Americans claim each time.

I give no fucks what the NRA does or says. I'm not a member and never have been.

@Render Strangely, the NRA does not like the CDC to study gun violence. It's almost like they know the truth just as well as everyone else and simply find keeping up the charade to be more profitable.
