Now that the GOP has destroyed the Democrats and taken over the system forever (all the Dems are going to do from here is move further to the right, not the left), we need to reject that system even harder and organize better to create a more sane one through things like mutual aid, value-driven worker-owned businesses, communal living, retirement homes that double as childcare facilities, participation in worldwide barter systems, etc. It's time to just say no.

this evening,

“Hope and fear come from feeling that we lack something; they come from a sense of poverty.

We hold on to hope, and hope robs us of the present moment.

Rather than letting our negativity get the better of us, we could acknowledge that right now we feel like a piece of shit

and not be squeamish about taking a good look.

That’s the compassionate thing to do. That’s the brave thing to do.”

“The word in Tibetan for hope is rewa; the word for fear is dokpa.

More commonly, the word re-dok is used, which combines the two.

Hope and fear is a feeling with two sides. As long as there’s one, there’s always the other.

This re-dok is the root of our pain.

In the world of hope and fear, we always have to change the channel,”

I am saddened my ancestors did so much to make it hard for them to be. May we do better than those that came before us.

@Alfred please explain Carl Jung's concept of enantiodromia.

“The difference between theism and nontheism is not whether one does or does not believe in God.

It is an issue that applies to everyone, including both Buddhists and non-Buddhists.

Theism is a deep-seated conviction that there’s some hand to hold: if we just do the right things, someone will appreciate us and take care of us. "

“nontheism is relaxing with the ambiguity and uncertainty of the present moment without reaching for anything to protect ourselves.”

"This is the discovery of egolessness. It’s when all our usual schemes fall apart. Reaching our limit is like finding a doorway to sanity and the unconditional goodness of humanity, rather than meeting an obstacle or a punishment.”

“When we reach our limit, if we aspire to know that place fully—

a hardness in us will dissolve. We will be softened by the sheer force of whatever energy arises—the energy of anger, the energy of disappointment, the energy of fear.

When it’s not solidified in one direction or another, that very energy pierces us to the heart, and it opens us."

“when we reach our limit, we freeze in terror. Our bodies freeze and so do our minds.

How do we work with our minds when we meet our match?

Rather than indulge or reject our experience, we can somehow let the energy of the emotion, the quality of what we’re feeling, pierce us to the heart.

This is easier said than done, but it’s a noble way to live.

It’s definitely the path of compassion—the path of cultivating human bravery and kindheartedness.”

“Reaching our limit is not some kind of punishment.

It’s actually a sign of health that, when we meet the place where we are about to die, we feel fear and trembling.

A further sign of health is that we don’t become undone by fear and trembling, but we take it as a message that it’s time to stop struggling and look directly at what’s threatening us.

disappointment and anxiety are messengers that we’re about to go into unknown territory”
