LOL – I posted info yesterday about the traditional start of the school year – and @grayman said, “It was decades ago, but I still relate.”

Okay, so how about this? Do you all relate: when something exciting happened at school (back in the day) --or perhaps when you learned something really interesting -- and you couldn’t wait to share the day’s excitement with others?

@Route10 @grayman no, i can't relate any excitement due to school.. being excited about learning new things, yes, but that never happened at school. school was just tedium & torture

Ohhh nooo... : (

How about the day you were introduced to Dickinson?

LOL -- wasn't that a new adventure begging to be told?

😂

@Route10 @grayman but it wasn't school. my mom took me to the library twice/week. by the time i was 10, i had read every book in the children's section, whether i found it interesting or not (in the 60s books aimed at boys were almost all sports biographies. so boring), & many 3 or more times. the library didn't allow children under 14 to take books from the regular library, so i'd go make stacks of 15 or so books & my mom would check them out for me.

@Route10 @grayman i took out a lot of biology, natural history & mathmatics books, but i also read poetry & a few novels. my parents did not censor what i chose to read (i read The Mouse That Roared in 4th grade. i read Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End in 2nd grade. my teacher took that away from me & wouldn't give back to my mom, so she bought me a new copy). i was literally bored to tears in school. there was no advanced placement & few teachers willing or able to give me work at my level.

That is what I can relate to.

That and the excitement of when I would be released.
