It’s the day after Labor Day, so I suspect many of you know what that means! Schools are open!

In my area, schools opened about two weeks ago, but in many areas, “the day after Labor Day” is still the standard!

I substitute teach in two local middle schools, and today I was a 6th grade English/Language Arts teacher.

I was going to post this info earlier today, but alas, due to some sort of area-wide issue...

Dickinson wrote 15 poems with the word “school” (including “Because I could not stop for Death”), but my favorite school-related poem of hers never even mentions the word. LOL – in this poem, “school” is described as both a “jail” and a “prison.”

My favorite image of all occurs in lines 5 and 6, when – at the end of the school day – “they storm the Earth and stun the Air / A Mob of solid Bliss.”

I was a participant in that mob this afternoon. LOL!
