@wowindc you're welcome. i keep pretty much everything under my "c:\users\<username>\" in onedrive. the only exception is the downloads folder. i don't back this up because it's easy to download stuff again. desktop, documents, music, pictures, and videos are all kept in onedrive. almost everything is "available when online" so it's not taking space locally. other stuff is "available on this device" so i don't have to be online for it
@gls Thank you!! That makes so much sense. My Mom lives out of state and I visit her every few months for a 2-week period and trying to figure out, if best to cloud all my docs or use portable SSD drive (or have both as an option). I keep a basic laptop at her place as I have work laptop and got tired of traveling with 2 laptops. I really appreciate your response :)
@wowindc i use Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office backup utility to take an image backup so i can easily restore in case of problems. i don't include onedrive stuff in the acronis backup. for that i use a 1TB usb drive for portability
@gls Ahhh yes, Acronis, I have heard of that and I didn't think about it as a personal option, I know the tech at work uses it for work stuff. Will look at that today!
@gls Thank you, I appreciate the assist. Do you keep back up all your files in One Drive or just VIPS? I got a new laptop and "stepped" up from Windows 10 to Windows 11. If I lose connection to the internet, I want to make sure I can access files locally - so put things in the cloud directory or do you keep some off line (I hope that makes sense, it does in my head) :)
