In 1981 my daughter was born three months premature. She weighed 2 pounds and now lives with Cerebral Palsy. This month is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. In 2002 she was crowned Miss Hibernia in Genesee County, Michigan. She led the St. Patrick's Day parade that year. Now she lives and works in remote Alaska. Today she is being screened for the COVID-19 virus because of a possible exposure. March is always a busy month for her.
@flygande_ren Thank you. She is keeping me updated with phone calls and text messages. She has an appointment early afternoon her time. With a 4 hour time difference between us I will be pacing around for several more hours.
@gettinaway Fingers crossed it is just a precaution. It's stressful to worry about our children.
@Anemone Thank you! She is a high school teacher and her students are just now returning from spring break. Most who left the state have passed through the Seattle Airport and they visited areas up and down the west coast. My daughter has respiratory issues from problems she had as a preemie. She loves where she lives but it does take a toll on her health.
@gettinaway Will those returning students self-quarantine for two weeks?
@Anemone Right now it doesn't look like it. The school is closed now for two weeks but teachers are required to put together study packets and have them at the school. My daughter was able to get a waver to work on these from home and will drop them off after hours.
She has been amazed by her students parents. They are helping so she doesn't have to leave home if she doesn't have too. They have told her she is too important to their kids to get sick.
@gettinaway Well, that is reassuring. She is definitely high risk. Sounds like they are all being responsible which is good news.
She’s gorgeous!!!
Tell her to follow @fifiandmo on Instagram.
Little girl with CP, momma making it work, shining a light on it.
@Kitty62862 Thank you! She is my bright light in the world. Her mom passed away shortly after my daughter was born so it has been just the two of us.
I will pass that along to her. I know she follows many people who live with CP. Her favorite is another Michigan girl. https://www.instagram.com/mightymissmaya/?hl=en
Finley is the child in the Target ads, with the purple walker

@Kitty62862 I remember seeing this. These kids are all hero's! This is Mighty Miss Maya the day she took her first steps. I have been n contact with her family and my daughter and I are hoping to visit with them this summer. If all the health scares are gone!

That’s awesome!!!
Finley was selected for a program by Lexus. They built a kiddie car, that’s an adaptive wheelchair, but doesn’t look like one

@Kitty62862 That car is really cool! When my daughter was younger she tried not to appear to have a disability. She refused canes, walkers, wheelchairs and anything else that would help. Now that she is grown up she embraces all these things and loves that they give her added mobility.
@gettinaway I hope she stays safe and healthy 💚
