Going through some old videos.
Denali 2012
This is a collection of clips my brother shot while we were tent camping in Denali National Park. My profile picture is one of the bears from the video. I was taking pictures as he filmed.
@Anemone It was a pair of courting bears. The male came within 75 feet of us to look and turned away. We had a vehicle close by that we could quickly get into. The bears of Denali have a diet that is about 95% vegetation. They really don't associate people as a meal so we felt fairly safe. In the past few years I have hiked in the park by myself and have had several close encounters with bears, but I am more afraid around the moose. They are always having a bad day!
@gettinaway Agreed. Moose are the ones I fear the most as well. I saw a lovely cinnamon brown bear deep in the mountains in southern BC once - hiking with a friend, we turned around quickly. It was cute, but we were truly nowhere, not on a trail.

Seen @ johnmarriott on insta?

Kuzymateen bears, or some such?
@InvaderGzim @gettinaway
Just checking it out now. I don't often go to insta any longer. Lots of wildlife!
@InvaderGzim He has some beautiful shots. His website says he is from Canada! I need to check it out some.
@gettinaway
He also has a YouTube channel... FYI...
@Anemone I often wonder how many bear I have walked by without even seeing! One day in Denali I was walking the road and had a bus full of tourist stop to tell me a pair of bears ran across the road between me and their bus. Maybe only 50 feet between us. They were more shook up then I was!
Because, you're crazy! @gettinaway @Anemone
@Bemet_Or I grew up in Flint Michigan. At one time the murder capital of the USA. Now the water crisis is going on. I feel safer facing the bears! 😉
@gettinaway ok makes sense now! :)
@gettinaway
Whoa! I’ve been pretty dang close to black bears while hiking in the NC mountains. But, damn grizzlies!
@CherNohio The Denali grizzlies see a lot of people through the year. The park has only had one fatality and that was a guy who started following a big boar. He kept pushing the bears boundaries until the bear charged him. He should never have done what he did.
@gettinaway
I supposed once you are that close you already have a plan if they approach. Yikes, that is close. Those are Grizzlies!
