As a Firefighter, that day taught me a bitter lesson, for I knew I’d have done just as they did

The next day when I reported for duty, I learned another lesson

It was brave for them to face a disaster like that. But the next day was a gut check of our calling to have dedicated our lives to that type of service

Because that NEXT day & ALL the days after, we truly understood the depths of what might actually be asked of us

Then ALL those Fire, Police & Military personnel reported for duty

And you stayed sober through it all.

Eternal love, respect, and thanks, my friend.

It strengthened my dedication to stay sober. I knew that dealing with this new understanding of my chosen duty would require the sharpest mind I could bring to it.

I grew up in an unexpected way that next morning. I came to a new place of self awareness & acceptance

I finally knew who I was

Personally, totally relatable in terms of surving DV. We do whatever it takes to not pick up that first drink/drug, period.
