Time for a fruit break. Now in season, Bajan ackees. Let me explain up front, this is NOT the famed Jamaican ackee; this is the fruit that is called guinep or chenette in other Caribbean islands. Barbados is the only island, AFAIK, that calls it ackee.

The green skin peeled off and the fleshy fruit inside is eaten. There is a white seed, which can either be tossed aWAY, or bitten to crack it, and the nut like interior chewed.. We used to do that as children, not so much as adults

@fugitive247 Once you get some nice ripe ones, you eat a ton of ackees one time --- no 10 ackees. And many a youngster has had to scramble after being discovered "t"iefin" a neighbour's ackees. Others of us were sensible and went and asked politely for permission.. lol
