how do I turn of the scanner applet in the bottom left of the browser window?

never mind, i googled the solution, which is to go to Edit Profile > Preferences > enable Ostrich Mode

@f_gundersen click on your name to go to your account, then edit preferences, preferences, scroll down to Ostrich mode & select enable ostrich mode. it removes cosocom & the top news bar. remember to save changes
