Federal and state authorities have been urged to fix a “missing link” in Australia’s emergency alert system following Hawaii’s false missile alert.

Defence analyst Malcolm Davis said although Australia had an emergency alert system for natural disasters, there was a “functional gap when it comes to high-level military threats”.

“The technology is there. It’s just the political management of the task that has to be sorted out.
