Sadly, this is not the first time Christianity has been perverted for political ends, and it won't be the last.
But, this has nothing to do with the actual contents of the Bible.
Yes, Christianity got perverted for political gain way back when Constantine converted to Christianity back in 325 AD. The entire history of the both Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches is about holding onto and wielding political power, sadly.
