"Burning Man conditions are bordering on disaster with over 70,000 people trapped and sheltering-in-place after rains turned the playa into an undrivable mud pit." https://www.sfgate.com/travel/article/no-access-after-burning-man-rain-storm-18344393.php
@estherschindler I'm waiting for the first idiot to compare this to the Fyre Festival. It is not. It's a large, well-coordinated, and well-run event. This is an exceptional storm.
@estherschindler
"...organizers were forced to shut down the festival’s gate and airport, halting access in and out of the playa."
That one sentence makes me feel claustrophobic. They are being told to conserve food and water. Hope the organizers are looking into airdrops.
@elbutterfield @estherschindler
They'll be able to fly in supplies by helicopter if they have to. The issue will likely be sanitation and people getting sick.
Supplies for over 70 thousand people? Wondering when the decision to try to walk out of the venue begins.
@elbutterfield @estherschindler
Walk where? They're in the middle of the desert.
Gerlach and the highway 10 miles away.
@elbutterfield @estherschindler
I doubt the town has the supplies on hand or hotel rooms for 70,000 people. Either way, nobody's going to starve to death unless they already were when they got there.
@Ubiety @estherschindler It's a tiny town of about a hundred people, but it is on the highway and out of the mud, so a first connection point for those who have somebody who could pick them up.
Chris Rock got picked up after a 5 mile walk out, so it looks like that is an option.

But am I glad I didn’t go.
@estherschindler Yikes, playa con dios all...
