My review of the Slow cooker Through the Seasons cookbook... Meh. It's very midwest white-bread cooking, and I do not mean that in a good way. But I think I provide enough info for you to decide for yourself if this suits your needs. https://amzn.to/3Sv6s1w
@singlemaltgirl Yeah I didn't even know you could still buy canned mushrooms. Another carrot side dish has you start with a bag of frozen carrots... because you can't take the time to chop them up yourself, WTF?
@estherschindler i don't think i've ever had canned mushrooms. i guess we're kinda spoiled that they're always available as fresh. i do have dried shitakes which are great as a soup additive on occasion or when i need something to taste even more mushroomier :)
carrots - same thing. why would you ever go frozen w/ them? i have gone frozen peas. i think most of my frozen stuff is fruit that tends to be really expensive out of season.
@estherschindler ack, the need the 'boxed ingredients' was the turn off. i make homemade primarily b/c i use fresh, frozen or what's in my fridge/counter/pantry and i don't buy a lot of boxed. i buy canned, dried, frozen & lots of spices. so it wouldn't work for me. but thanks for putting together such an indepth review.
i love my crockpot in the winter/spring (late fall, too). i use a lot of nigella & ina garten recipes that i've modified for slow cooking. mmm....
