"The average Briton owns more than 50 books, but do they organise them alphabetically, by colour, genre, or size - or simply let chaos reign? Our research shows that many simply prefer to let chaos reign." yougov.co.uk/topics/arts/artic

@estherschindler ^shudder* it has to be by author surname, alphabetically, with series together and in order. (you can tell I worked in a library at school). My reference books are by subject. lol

@estherschindler We put ours where they fit 🤣
Coffee table books need their own shelf due to sheer size, so that kind of puts the brakes on alphabetical.
Vinyl records, on the other hand are in alphabetical by band *and* chronological order by release date!

@estherschindler

FIFTY books...?

:: looks around ::

I've got a SHELF with forty-six books.

😮

@estherschindler
By genre then chaos reigns - my cookbooks with Julia Child, James Beard and Gastronomique on the top shelf.

@LordyIHopeTheRTapes @estherschindler

Mine are a mix of genre and chaos, but shelf height versus spine height turns out to be a major factor.
