Name a series that was good then got bad after a few books.
My entry: The Cross-Time Engineer. First book is great (present-day engineer sent back to 1231 in Poland), the rest careen downhill.
@estherschindler I'll probably get jumped on for this But the Wheel of Time series. I got three books in and it go so slow and plodding I couldn't force myself to keep reading.
@estherschindler concur on gor and wheel of time, but my candidate is the thomas covenant series.
@estherschindler though written as stand alone 📚 , both Tim Dorsey (Serge) and Patricia Cornwell (Scarpetta) peaked around books 6/8.
in that vein, there are others.

The "Gor" series was okay until about 25 pages into the very first book.
