Samurai Sword Master Rates 10 Japanese Sword Scenes In Movies And TV (longer than I needed personally, but certainly in-depth for those who know what they are looking at) https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=UMmLRJYdQlQ&feature=emb_title
So the stuff he said was “very difficult” is what most western analysts would probably call “realistically impossible”.
I’d probably want to hear from more than one master, but I’m inclined to believe him over the western analysts.
I /did/ notice he barely talked about the group fight in Kill Bill, which I’ve heard is a load of hokum just due to the sheer numbers and the fact that she was surrounded. It was only brought up as a comparison to the need for slow movement in 1v1
This was a very interesting and thought provoking video, thanks for sharing.
@estherschindler
I’m surprised he rated so many so highly, especially the flashy modern ones.
Interesting.
I had thought a lot of the flashier ones would be rated lower for lack of realism (like impossible moves) or poor technique or something. But I guess western movies have done a better job at researching than I had been led to believe.
I did notice he said “very difficult” and “perfect angle/balance of pressure” and stuff to accomplish certain feats, like cutting the cloth or the pipe.
