For today's #CoSoBuses root here is the first product of the recently established partnership between Iveco and the Turkish bus maker Otokar, the Iveco Streetway. This entry level urban bus is available in two lengths, 12 m and 18 m, and with two different FPT engines, Cursor 9 and Cursor 9 NG (natural gas). In the pic there is one of the new Streetway CNG of AMSC Gallarate with the new livery introduced by the Lombardia region for the urban buses.
@elleci42a 18m? Do you mean LITERALLY 18 meters? I'm trying to wrap my head around that. And I remain impressed with the tremendous amount of visibility the driver has!
@elleci42a Whatever they are paid isn't enough. I'm getting anxiety just looking at that an imagining it going through traffic....
@researchbuzz Generally they're used in large and straight city roads
@elleci42a Can't imagine a large and straight enough road that wouldn't be giving me a sweaty forehead. No luck! Lol
@researchbuzz These articulated buses are used also in the so called BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) systems where they run in reserved lanes and with protected stops
@researchbuzz If I was a bus driver I would sweat a lot with driving a double-decker bus like this Neoplan Skyliner of the Lazio regional interurban bus operator Cotral. This bus mounts an Euro 6 MAN D2676 LOH engine (6 cylinder, 12412 cmΒ³, 368 kW/500 PS) and a 12-speed ZF ASTronic (rebranded as MAN TipMatic) automated manual transmission.
@elleci42a In a city near here there's a bridge that's famous for being low. It's about ten feet of clearance. I got stuck under it riding in a truck one time! Anyway, The first thing I thought of is what that bridge would do to that bus... woo!
@researchbuzz Forgot to mention that the transmissions available for this model are the 4-speed Voith DIWA or the 6-speed ZF EcoLife, both automatic
