Russia used Sailfish OS then rebranded it Aurora OS - as far as I'm aware Sailfish OS is still safe to use
Currently, if the Play Store wants to scan an APK you’re trying to install, a warning will pop up. If users want to bypass this warning they can tap “Install anyway.”
As well as allowing chrome, or any browser or app, permission to install unknown APKs making users input a pin is a good thing. As a lot forget to disallow the permission they granted in the first place via chrome or other apps.
Always toggle off after install 😉
(APK teardown) While digging through the Play Store (version 41.4.19), seems Google is working on a way to further protect users from malicious APKs. If the Play Store is suspicious of an APK, you’ll now be required to enter a PIN or submit biometric authentication before you’ll be able to install the APK.
This be for for APKs that Google thinks are malicious that didn’t come from the Play Store itself mostly - It's unclear when Google will roll the feature out.
