if you don't want "randoms" from the firehose "jumping" into your posts with replies you can change your post settings so your posts don't show in the firehose
unlisted - will only show in your "my friends" column but still public via your TL/profile(and PLP)
followers only - only your followers will see posts
(firehose post are "fair game" for anyone to reply < jus sayin)
