When did scanners become illegal in the UK? I bought a scanner from a shop in the UK about 15 years ago because the US version had the mobile bands blocked and the UK version didn't.

but illegal to listen in on UK police or any other emergency service using it < cause UK use fully encrypted transmission

although some specialised scanners are illegal but majority are not
