In a moment of cosmic irony, today, a week after I received my long-awaited bottle of Sortilège Prestige (a fine Canadian maple whisky), I received an email from the seller … announcing they’ve just put it on sale at $30 less than what I paid.

This bill is a disgrace. Making it *illegal* for unionized workers to strike? Denying them paid sick leave? President Biden and the entire Democratic Party ought to be ashamed of this.

The rail workers should strike anyway. Will it incur economic damage? Yes, of course: that’s the POINT of a strike.

Workers should not be denied basic rights and dignity while management rakes in BILLIONS of dollars in profits.

I sometimes get weirdly attached to inanimate objects, especially if I’ve owned them for a long time.

I get nostalgic when it comes time to let one go. Usually this involves first apologizing to the item, and then thanking it for its years of loyal service.

Today's departing object of affection is an area rug I've owned for 31 years, since my first post-college apartment in NYC.

As Neil Peart once wrote, “Changes aren’t permanent, but change is.” Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
