As predicted, asteroid struck Earth at 1645 GMT, jeast of the northernmost island of the Philippine archipelago. Expected hit at a speed of 17.6 km/dper second, or 63,360 km/hour, which Alan Fitzsimmons says is average for such objects. “Don’t be fooled by Hollywood movies where you can see the thing coming screaming through the sky and you’ve got time to run out the house, get the cat, jump in the car and drive somewhere. You don’t have the time to do that,” he says.

I've seen one similar to that before - it's astounding, because you can *hear* it, too. Instant reminder of our scale in the universe, and humbling.
