Y'all let me know how Trump's mess is.

I'm watching SCOTUS on Grants Pass today.

@damselfly59

That was pretty savage. "Shall they just kill themselves then?"

@DisasterOracle I am sickened by the lawyer. Those shelters are wicked for children and woman at times.

@damselfly59

I'm 1/2 and 1/2. There are plenty of good shelters and good hearted people out there. I run one of those organizations.

But you're right. There are plenty of tragedies out there that are horror stories.

I've seen "FORCED ASSISTANCE TACTICS" and it doesn't always work.

It usually ends up in exporting homeless to another community.

@damselfly59

Also note: I only work with a subsect of the population, not the whole general homeless population. So it is absolutely different. I'm limited.

@DisasterOracle as a blue state we are receiving a lot of them.
Maybe we need to fix the policy before we fine and criminalize both financial and mental health cases.

@DisasterOracle Thank you for the work you do. Feel you have a much better view and solution than anyone I am listening too as well as myself.
What do you think?

@damselfly59

Transit police tried it in Camden NJ a few years ago. Anyone who was considered "vagrant" was taken in, and sent before the judge. If they took assistance offered to them, they were released to the agency's assistance.

If they refused, it was up to 90 days in the county jail.

Problem was, it was winter, and it was more convenient to stay in jail, so people remained. Then we had overcrowding by people who really didn't deserve to be there.

@damselfly59

Now on the back end of this... I recently got the opportunity to see a Veterans Court. Where Veteran defendants were brought forth before the judge for their crimes. If any defendant was considered homeless, they were offered a chance at a positive outcome with a social service program. Should they enroll in that program and succeed, their case would be given a lesser charge, or given complete diversion.

It was amazingly uplifting.

@damselfly59 I'm gonna have to finish it tomorrow actually. I ended up with a crisis case I had to take.
