Uhhh... here is the fusion reactor at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) alongside the USS Enterprise warp core from Into Darkness.

It was a Horace Silver song, as arranged by Daryl Dragon, otherwise known as The Captain. I was so moved by this arrangement that I did a lot of research, tracking down his contact information to tell him how much his recording had meant to me that night. We became friends because of our mutual love of music, and conversed for some time via letters, phone and later email, until he became too sick to respond any longer. I wish he was still with us.

One warm summer night long ago, after a late college course, I was driving home and listening to an obscure station in South Texas. A song came on and it was so captivating to me that I had to pull over to give it my full attention. I sat, mesmerized, until the song ended, and then waited almost 40 minutes for the announcer to finally come back on and reveal the song name and artist. As a young jazz aficionado, I had to know. Maybe I'm weird, but most of "my" stuff seems different from other people:

It's time to walk away from people and services we disagree with yet continue to indulge, with a feverish false hope of "but maybe I can help make a change". It's not working. In fact, the madness is accelerating. Choose a side & shut out the rest. Still have a Twitter account even though you hate what it's become? Close it. Do you find FB polarizing and depressing? Leave.
Please, let's all step off that plank and let the stupid and hateful fall away. (image borrowed from @CinnamonGirlE)

"Any forward-facing scientist can tell you that receiving dangerous messages has been a common occurrence throughout the pandemic. But the hate, resentment, frustration, and anger was crystallized in one instance over the weekend. Elon Musk ... wrote "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci."

Saddened to hear today that we've lost Angelo Badalamenti. Just 6 months ago we also lost Julee Cruise. Here's one of my favorite songs by that amazing team:

And now for some 70's prog, from a great group that is somewhat obscure (though they definitely deserve a wider audience). If you dig this, check out their albums. Here is Rock and Roll from La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros:

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a government official sworn to defend the constitution, has publicly stated that the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol would have been successful if she’d been running the show. Oh, and that she'd have made sure that the protesters were armed.

When will we remove from office those who are so clearly and blatantly violating their oath? When did we become so desensitized to sedition, treason and malicious idiocy that we merely roll our eyes and look away?

OK, ok, so... today's pick is NOT FOR EVERYONE. In fact, even if you like this band, it's very likely that you love some of their songs and hate others. But if you dig music, this guy is (opinion) up there with Zappa, Tankian and other creative geniuses. Check out Downgrade Desert by Igorrr:

And if you're daring, check out my fave of theirs. Once seen, it's not easily forgotten:

There's something about power pop, you can't help but be happy when you listen. Sometimes when I'm feeling blue (most days) I put on my melodic power pop playlist as a pick-me-up. Here is Summertime in My Heart by The Electric Soft Parade:

Found it! Looks like they're no longer available anywhere. Also, looks like they received mixed reviews. 😠 Thanks to all who helped me look for them!

This prog/djent group from Tehran, Iran is a technical marvel. The fact that these two brothers often include their dad playing the santur/qanun in their videos is awesome! Here is Hyper Planet playing To Live with Wisdom:
