It was a Horace Silver song, as arranged by Daryl Dragon, otherwise known as The Captain. I was so moved by this arrangement that I did a lot of research, tracking down his contact information to tell him how much his recording had meant to me that night. We became friends because of our mutual love of music, and conversed for some time via letters, phone and later email, until he became too sick to respond any longer. I wish he was still with us.
@Bliss Same here, although I had not previously heard that song because it didn't normally get any airplay.
Now it's mostly about nostalgia, but I'll still put some of their stuff on when I am feeling blue or lonely. Cheers me up! 🙂
Their music always put me in a happy place. I was so fascinated by the music - it always made me happy - that I too read up just a bit about him to learn of his musical background. But in the pre-internet days his early work was hard to come by. So I just enjoyed the "happy music"I could get my hands on.
