Code's eclectic music pick of the day:

Today's pick is another Tigran Hamasyan song. Why? Because he's a frigging genius (not the "person-woman-man-camera-TV" kind of genius, but the polyrhythmic-crazy-time-signature-music-is-math-blender-that-somehow-all-makes-sense kind of genius). If you dig this, definitely check out my favorite of his (second link)

For day 5 of , here is Fairies Wear Boots by Brownout. This group evolved out of Grupo Fantasma, who previously appeared in one of my daily picks. Both groups are fun if you dig a good horn section.

OK, I freely admit that I fit the older-guy cliché and dig Steely Dan. How can I resist that vibe? It's somewhere between yacht rock and blue-eyed soul.

But yesterday I heard a report that Gen-Zs are now discovering SD and really getting into it.

Well, if you also dig that style, here's a playlist for you. Maybe it'll help with a little mood boost:

As a horn player (trumpet, sax, trombone) I dig finding great music that features these instruments, especially rock and funk. So my next few picks will focus on

Here is Nucleus with Phaideaux Corner.

The Enid's style is immediately recognizable thanks to the influence of composer Robert John Godfrey (yet another musical genius), melding mostly prog rock and deep classical elements.

Despite the band's tumultuous time evident during this period, I really favor the Joe Payne era of Enid.

Code's eclectic music pick(s!) of the day:

The Dear Hunter consistently crafts truly interesting music. I have no idea why they're not more well-known, but I can tell you that if you spend a few minutes sampling songs from their evolving catalog, you might agree that they have something special. Here are four cuts to give you a taste of what to expect on your journey:

What's better than having two drummers in a rock band? Having two drummers on a rotating turntable, suspended sideways.

For your listening and viewing - uhhh - pleasure?

I can't tell you how or why today's pick means so much to me. Not just this song, but all of this band's more recent efforts. They had huge hits in the 80's, yet never interested me. Then I heard this, and saw some interviews with the genius Paddy McAloon.

Try this haunting 22 minute song. If you dig it, check the albums since ~1990. Well worth the effort.

Here is I Trawl the Megahertz by Prefab Sprout.

Feeling blue today. Which is OK, it seems that melancholy is my natural resting state. So let's lean into some blues together. Here's Yusef Lateef on oboe playing Trouble in Mind. And check the rest of the lineup, doesn't get much better than this (The Cannonball Adderley Sextet).
