I used to be one of those people who mocked fruitcake because all I knew was the kind that should really be a doorstop. Then I tried my neighbor's fruitcake and my mind was blown. Her fruitcake is beyond amazing. It's light and soaked for days in rum and now I live for the holidays and her fruitcake.

@Bald_Guy_With_Bike That was absolutely my experience until my neighbor's fruitcake! I hope one day you experience delicious fruitcake like hers.
@cjewel Like most things, there are fruitcakes and there are fruitcakes...I made them for 3 or 4 Christmases in a row awhile back but somehow got out of the habit. Alton Brown has a really good recipe, if I recall.
@cjewel I’ve never had a fruitcake that was even remotely edible. I’ve never been quite sure how they make them so awful in texture and flavor. Possibly cheap liquor and dried fruit left over from the Norman Invasion. “Feed this to William and the French will certainly leave us!”
