I was talking with family the other day about cholesterol and some folks had high LDL even though they rarely ate animal products or hydrogenated fats, etc. I just read that coffee brewed French press style can increase your LDL (bad) cholesterol. The book I'm reading that discusses it is "Most Delicious Poison" by Noah Whiteman. Meanwhile here's an article with more details:

@CJLavoie Cholesterol is driven by glucose, not by dietary cholesterol or animal products. I do not know anything about a correlation with coffee, but caffeine works by spiking glucose so maybe that's part of it.

@chakaal According to the book I mentioned, there are two turpenoids, cafestol and kahweol, that bind to a hormone receptor in the small intestine. “This binding sends the wrong message to the liver, which then cranks up the production of LDL.”
