Morning thought:

It's long been suggested that people's attention spans are getting shorter, and that ads, news segments, songs, videos and so on are getting shorter to accommodate this; or, conversely, that their very diminution is shortening our attention.

In any case, the things that hold our attention tend to be brief segments of a few seconds' duration, each with a fragment of action or a bit of snappy dialogue.
